If you are thinking of starting some type of weight loss regimentation you are also thinking about exercise. If you have not found a place yet I want you to think before you leap. Here are some things to consider.

Location, location, location

How far is the place from where you work or go to school or home? If you have to drive more than 10 minutes chances are you will use that as an excuse to not go and exercise. If the place is close enough there is a greater chance that you will use the facilities that you are paying for. This goes hand in hand with the hours of operation. Ensure that the facility is open when you need it to be available. If you look around you may even find some 24 hour facilities. Many people may not feel secure out at that time, but nonetheless, the option is out there for you to choose from.

What's The Tone?

The "vibrations" you receive from the facility really set the course for your future use. If you adore hanging around a place with big hulking men, then you may not enjoy a place that has older people doing yoga. If you enjoy yoga you more than likely will not feel comfortable with the atmosphere of 350 pound weights dropping to the floor. You need to feel comfortable while you exercise. You will more than likely sense the "tone" of the place the moment you walk in the door. Go with your gut on this one because first impressions are very important when it comes to selecting a place to exercise.

The Right Equipment

In the big box world of stores today you will more than likely find a facility that has a mixture of weights, machines and cardio equipment. You really will need to take a close look at what is available and decide if that is what you want to commit yourself to using. Take a walk around and see how many of the machines are broken or worn out. Take a stroll into the bathroom and see how clean it is kept. The equipment in the bathroom (toilets, lockers, showers) is also important to your over all experience. Looking at the "back end" of a business is an age old way to tell how the front end is maintained.

Staff

Most places will offer you upfront training the first day and after that you are pretty much on your own. For some people this is great while it will leave others feeling abandoned. There is no easy answer here because what everyone wants is different. If you desire to be left alone then most places will gladly take your money and do so. If you need more attention then you should ask about the availability of personal trainers. Seek out what you desire and be sure the facility has that to offer you.

Classes

Check out what classes are offered and if you find something you are interested in then ensure the schedule will match the availability of what you need. Do not assume that every gym offers an abundance of classes that you would be interested in joining.

What About The Kids?

If children are in your reality you may want to make sure there is a facility to keep them safe and occupied while you sweat. Ensure they are not only safe but also engaged in an activity that is stimulating to their young minds. If kids are in your life this will be something you want to think about, but then you already knew that didn't you?

After you search around you will need to decide whether you want to become a member. First off you should try the facilities a few times before you join. Do not allow yourself to be pressured into someplace you will hate and never use. You must be warned that almost all places pay their employees commissions and that is all they care about. If you must sign a contract never accept the first price thrown at you. Walk away and they will invite you back with a better offer. When approached with a contract keep the terms as short as possible and NEVER go over one year.

Pick a place and keep at it and you will lose weight. Most people quit and never go back to the fitness center. If you want to be thin, then be dedicated!
