If you ever wanted to lose some weight and do not have the motivation to stick with a diet or
weight loss plan then I have to suggest to you to get yourself a German Shepard dog. Fifteen days ago a friend of mine offered me an 18 Month old German Shepard by the name of Jackie. She is very intelligent and extremely well behaved and has quickly worked her way into the hearts of her new family. There has been one very unexpected benefit to having Jackie come live with us and that his her tenacious ability to get us up out of the house and go for a walk. Since we have had her move in we walk no less than five miles each and everyday. Through the addition of this newest family member we now have a full time weight loss coach in the family.
Every morning at around six she comes into our room and licks us in the face to tell you the big yellow ball has appeared in the sky. She moves back and forth around the bed and whimpers that it is time to get up and greet the day. As I lay there I say to myself that I can't understand how excited anything could be that happy at six in the morning. Living in the deep Southern United States the humidity starts to become unbearable by eight A.M. I drag myself up out of bed with Jackie bouncing all over the room and the walls and maybe even the ceiling. I head to the door with leash in hand and head for the car to go to a nice trail we both love to visit. When we get to the trail she wags her tongue back and forth and views everything with an excitement of a child experiencing their world for the first time.
As we travel down the trail I start to wake up and notice the things I have not seen for years. I see the white puffy clouds in the morning sky. I hear the birds singing their songs and watch the squirrels scurry back and forth. There is even a home that has peacocks and across the road there is a large area with goats. Every time we pass by the animal kingdom it becomes alive with attention to the intruder we call Jackie. Everyday the peacocks squeal and the goats scramble. There has even been a ritual established where a local dog struts out of it's yard and says hello. We have learned that dog is named Rusty. As we travel back and forth the trail I see the world is alive but I only notice it because Jackie has awoken me and pleaded with her loving eyes to go out and play.
Having had Jackie in our family for only a few weeks I have learned that I have met my weight loss buddy. There are no days that she does not want to go out for a walk. There is never a shortage of love and there is never anger. As the days go by I have realized that she has been what I have been looking for all along. I have found a friend that is always there and always ready to go. I have found an exercise buddy that I have never been able to find in a human. I have found a true friend.
If you are trying to lose weight and want to exercise more then I suggest you go find a Jackie of your own. As I see her lying on the floor next to me I realize I must now get ready for sleep. I say this because it will not be too long before she drags me out for our exercise. Gosh! How I love that dog!

Keith, aside from all that you said, how wonderful it is for Jackie to have found you. I'm sure she benefits as much from the relationship. DianneI thank you for taking the time to read my story. Jackie is a wonderful friend. Actually better than alot of people I have met over the years.
