The Wars In Iraq & Afganistan Are Over

It was not too long ago that I would turn on the news and hear the daily tally of how many American soldiers, sailors and Marines were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. When the Oval Office had George Bush behind the desk the news networks bombarded us on a daily basis of the names of who died the previous day. It did not matter if the unfortunate soul became deceased in a accident or by a bomb. I could always count on flipping to page two of The Pensacola News Journal and seeing the running total of the newly maimed and dead. It was there in my face on a daily basis, it was never not there.
The early reason I thought was that there was an agenda to whip up the naive public against President Bush. An early thought was that there was a mass media attempt to re-visit Vietnam era news coverage in an attempt to turn the public against that which President Bush was trying to accomplish. I thought maybe the media was attempting to make Bush appear foolish or only out for oil profits. After a long period of contemplatation I concluded that in America we only have news organizations that reported accurate and unbiased news stories. I turned to other thoughts of why I no longer see the daily death count. It could not possibly be because the American media had a liberal, Socialist agenda.
After long and thoughtful weeks that turned into months of not seeing the daily death count I have concluded that America won the war. The war must be over and nobody else is getting killed. I was a bit shocked that there was no formal announcement and celebration that the war was over, but what other reason could there be for the sudden silence of the media? What else but victory could be the reason why I am not seeing the count of war dead on a daily basis, other than the fact that nobody is getting killed?
As I sit here i am sure glad that I live in a free country that has news organizations that are dedicated to the truth and well being of America. I am grateful that the news media was on hand for the full four years of military deaths, so the sacrifice of those would not be in vain. I am so glad for our media that has carried the struggles of the military and their missions to the front pages of our publications. I am so grateful for our media that is honest and provides unbiased truth the those of that have died to keep us free.
The only thing I can't figure out is why the media has not shouted out loud we won the war since Obama took over? We must have won because the daily tally of dead has ended. We must have won because....well we really don't hear anything at all anymore about anything the military does......since Obama took office.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)hi keith,i can tell you where the tally is kept, and soldiers who have died are respected and remebered-on nancy grace.now that my son is in the air force, and my daughter may be going into the army, i can't listen. i'm like a little kid with my hands over my ears, eyes closed, and humming.i actually e mailed the president as to why he can't make this stop with words and not bodies, and i got an answer today. it wasn't anything but a form letter showing the talks the President is having with different heads of state, but i guess that's better than nothing.oh, and i think it is 4,904.thanks for sharing your thoughts,best regards,sue thom
If only the war was over.
I too have noticed the lack of coverage. I wish I knew why since I really thought war was non-partisan. I really don't get it . . . we are all Americans, right?Well done.
