I Just Don't Care

It was not too long ago that I was a news junkie and watched the news every chance I had durin
g the day. I used to get upset when a political decision was against my belief or a country did something that made me fear for the safety of future generations. I drove in my car spending more time listening to all the talk radio commercials than actually any talk radio content, or so it seemed. I used to be up on all the things that were happening in the world. I was informed!!!
Of late I find myself really just not caring anymore. I hear about how our nation is going down the tubes with all the bailout money and how abortion foes are murdering people and how celebrities get arrested. The interesting thing is that I think I have given up and gained membership into the dumbest generation.
I spent the better part of June 6th asking my fellow generation members, and WAS NOT amazed that nobody knew that it was the anniversary of D-Day.
I heard North Korea was now able to send nukes to Alaska. I am glad I do not live in Alaska.
I read some contestant from American Idol revealed he was gay. I am glad I was not his roommate.
I heard abortion is killing a zillion or so babies every year. I am glad Mom didn't murder me.
I heard that America is doomed because the President is turning the USA into a Socialist nation. I am glad I will be able to benefit from the socialization of the medical culture, I just hope I do not get sick, because then I may care again.
I hear there are many people out of work. I don't care, I have a job
I heard there are some homeless people out there, I am glad I did not see one today, I might have felt guilty for a second or two.
I worried about all the illegal immigrants, but then remembered I really do not care.
I heard there is a battle to take away our gun rights, so I am happy to say I do not own a gun.
Somewhere in the world there are people who do not have access to clean drinking water but then I stopped thinking about it after the waiter brought me my glass of water.
I heard our military is killing civilians and I am really glad I don't know any of those people, because then I may have had to care.
A church missionary stopped at my door and I just closed the door, because I did not want to hear his opinion, because I really did not care about that either. Who needs God when you have the world?
YUP! I am now an official member of the dumbest generation, but the sad part is....I really don't care about that either!

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Very nice. I don't think you're part of the dumbest generation, I think it's another generation 'me' which means your average American cares nothing about anything unless it impacts them directly. And forget history! People either don't know or know the wrong facts. Ask someone about The Beatles and you'll get this puzzled expression (something that used to frost me). Nice article.
Mr. Keith, tell us what's REALLY on your mind :-) Nicely done. Great points made! Blessings to you! TeresaP.S. Nice to hear from you again. It's been a while.
